The National Association of Resale & Thrift Shops was founded on Sept 24, 1984 in Chicago, Illinois and became active nationwide by 1988, when it held its first Annual Conference. 

With over 1,000 members, the Association serves thrift, resale, and consignment shops of all types by providing educational and professional development for shopkeepers, promoting communication within the industry and by building public recognition of the industry.
